These last few days I have been thinking a bit about my experience working for or alongside extraordinary people.
What do I mean by extraordinary? It is hard to pin it down precisely, but I would go for people significantly above the norm in one or more key relevant respects, be it sheer talent, creativity, meticulous professionalism, astonishing drive or integrity, to name a few such attributes.
I feel I have had more than my fair share of exposure to such individuals, both whilst employed in the City and working independently on my own projects over the more recent past.
These people, the opportunity of learning from them, are one of the best reasons to get in front of a keyboard and computer screen each and every morning to try my best to make things work, particularly in the face of adversity.
I could name quite a few, but Rodolfo Carpintier, a well-known pioneer of the Spanish Internet start-up scene and founder of Digital Assets Deployment, is a fine example that comes to mind.
Over the last couple of years I had the chance of advising him in DAD's latest fundraising exercise and potential growth-related strategic moves. Rodolfo's uncompromising enthusiasm, incredible work ethic and generosity towards others has provided an inspiration that will travel with me for years to come, I am sure.
From here I want to thank him and every other individual who has really made an impact in shaping me up as a professional and, more importantly, as a person. These few lines go as a modest but heartfelt tribute to them all.
